I love Tashkent

I was born and grew up in Sebzor district of Tashkent city, the capital of Uzbekistan. Tashkent is one of the most ancient cities on the Great Silk Road from China to Europe. Tashkent has been existed over two thousand years. According to Beruniy and Mahmud Kashgariy, the name Tashkent appeared in the Turkic sources of 9-12 centuries.In the history the city had different names: Juni, Chach, Binkent, Shashtepa. Shashtepa can be translated from ancient language as "Six Hills". Later this name was transformed into Tashkent that means "Stone city".

Tashkent is Uzbekistan's largest city the most populated city in Uzbekistan and Central Asia. At present, Tashkent is a big political, economical, cultural and scientific center of the country. Tashkent is one of the most beautiful cities in Asia, and its architecture is unique. It is an old city with modern design, there are green squares with thousands of trees. It deserved to be named as "Gates of the Orient."

The strongest earthquake taken place in Tashkent April 26, 1966. The memorial "Courage" located on a coast of ancient channel Anhor was built to reflect this tragic event. The earthquake of 1966 measured 9 on the Richter scale and the damage area covered 10 sq.km. The human losses were insignificant as the city was more or less of 1-storied earthen buildings. The builders of all the parts of the country (former USSR) arrived to Tashkent. The city was rebuilt again.

Tashkent is the most cosmopolitan city in Uzbekistan. It is famous for its tree-lined streets, numerous fountains, museums, historical places, and pleasant parks. It is a modern and at the same time an oriental city.

Amir Timur was a remarkable figure in the Central Asian history. The Amir Timur Museum is a great example of architecture, it is built in the style of the oriental architecture. The building is topped by a huge blue dome.

The Tashkent Television Tower is a 365 metres (1,198 ft) high tower. It was the 3rd tallest tower in the world from 1985 to 1991.

Tashkent city's metro stations are among the most charming, attractive, and glamorous in the world. According to Wikipedia, it is illegal to take pictures inside the metro system or any of the stations because they are considered military installations.

Tashkent is the city with a fascinating and rich history. There are several historical places in Tashkent. One of them is Zangi Ota mausoleum. The Zangi-ota mausoleum was built during the life of Amir Temur, although some of the circumstances behind its construction still enveloped in myths.

The hospitality and friendliness of Tashkent people is fascinating. People in Tashkent like splendid and lavish tables, celebrating holidays and weddings. This photo was taken when I was in Tashkent last year during Ramadan celebration in a newly married couple's house. It is a best time to visit Tashkent!
